Senator Gordner Urges Local Officials to Apply For Conservation and Recreation Grants

(HARRISBURG) - - The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is now accepting applications for recreation grants under the popular Community Conservation Partnerships Program, according to State Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).

"Whether it's rehabilitating a community park, watershed development, or protecting natural areas and open spaces, the program provides an excellent opportunity for local communities to engage in conservation and recreation projects," said the Senator.

Senator Gordner said recent grant awards under the program assisted the Middleburg Area Community Pool, the Millville Park, the Fishing Creek Watershed Association and the Lower Mahanoy Recreation Area.

Municipal governments, recreation authorities and conservation groups are eligible for funding under the program.  Applications will be accepted by the Department until September 30, and the Department has scheduled workshops for local officials who are interested in applying for the grants.

Information on the workshops and the Community Conservation Partnerships Program is available from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at www.dcnr.state.pa.us or by contacting Senator Gordner's offices.
