Senate and House Unanimously Approve Historic Barns Resolutions

(HARRISBURG) - - The Senate of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives have unanimously approved resolutions recognizing the importance of historic barns in the Commonwealth and urging a statewide inventory of the historically significant structures.  The Senate resolution was sponsored by Senator John R. Gordner (R-Columbia), the vice chairman of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania.

"The resolution not only recognizes the historical significance of our rural past, but acknowledges the impact of historic barns to today's tourism and agricultural industries," Senator Gordner said.

The resolution calls for the Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to inventory and catalogue historic barns.  The results of the inventory will then be used to promote the Commonwealth's agricultural and tourism industries.

The Senate resolution was co-sponsored by Sen. John Wozniak (D-Cambria), a member of the board of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania.  The House resolution was sponsored by Rep. Sheila Miller (R-Berks), Chair of the Center, and Rep. Mike Hanna (D-Clinton) a board member.
